The internet is AI. I hope you understand what this means.

AI and the internet are one thing.

And the Luddites of our day are fighting shadows in the corners of their minds. Rather telling IYAM.

12 hour old account spouting intentionally divisive pro AI stance on a site known for having hard anti AI stances?

Really couldn’t be much more obvious of a troll

Yk, shitpost isn’t just shitty opinnion posting, it’s usually intended to be le funny, and you are taking this shitty opinnion of yours way too sersiously.

So i’ll kindly ask of you to take your undercooked arguments and keep them for yourself until you learn to produce edible thoughts ;)

“The Luddites were protesting the way that factory owners and early entrepreneurs were using technology to degrade their working conditions, erode their wages, and usher in a new kind of working—factory work—that would tear up their autonomy and leave them subservient to bosses,” says Brian Merchant, journalist and author of Blood in the Machine: The Origins of the Rebellion against Big Tech.

I have the strong feeling you don’t know what the words you’re using mean. The way GenAI is used is irresponsible and harming and it’s necessary to fight back.
    It’s a tool, not a religion…

When you think that the Internet and AI is the same thing… Yeah dude it is you that don’t know what AI is.

Its funny that clankers like you use Ludd and Luddites as a slur when they fought and fight a just fight: not being replaced by machines and or not being paid just salaries. But I guss that collective notion goes over your head.

Also the fediverse is a global network, so defaulting to america is really a bad look.

A statistical model built on neural networks solving black box problems.

I don’t hate AI but 99% of applications currently are just vanity, there are big energy problems with it, monopoly consolidation is getting exacerbated by it, identity theft is becoming easier than ever and then stolen training data and information clusters will be the next big issues.

What I’m saying is, a lot of experts (those who survived from the older field of machine learning and its various applications like genetic algorithms and classifiers) are critical of AI, and most people should be. It’s a big opportunity but we could destroy our society with it if we don’t come up with ethical constraints codified in law.

After looking up the Wikipedia definition I kind of disagree; my definition is more narrow but I also think it’s more akin to what we currently understand AI to be.

That said, even with the very loose Wikipedia definition of AI I don’t know how the hell you conclude that the internet / the web is AI. Yes, specific parts of it are AI, but the Internet in my understanding does not fit the definition.

“AI” tech bros can’t even define the term. What they’re peddling is a nth degree polynomial regression with a hint of randomness at the end. That’s hardly “intelligent” let alone particularly “artificial.” The term sounded cool, and the end result had a similar enough vibe to what we’ve been groomed from media to be artificial intelligence so marketing coopted it. It’s now become one of those terms that’s so ambiguous you can shove almost anything you want in that big tent:

    • Control a pong paddle–AI!
    • Sucker gooners for money–AI!
    • Advanced search of your restaurant menu–AI!
    • The Internet, I guess if you’re uninformed–AI!

I mean, that’s like arguing there’s no such thing as racism because people should be saying ethnicism.

People complaining about AI mean a certain thing. You know what they’re talking about.

Arguing about semantics and technical definitions does not an argument make.

It’s funny; I’ve been seeing these posts and comments recently. Pro-AI, similar vocabulary (The term Luddite seems to be quite popular with these folks - what’s next? Decel?), all from fresh accounts. You’re not fooling me, which is impressively incompetent of you.

To everyone arguing here, I want to wish you good luck.

Remember, whatever comes out of these gates, we’ve got a better chance of survival if we work together. Hold strong and you will see your children again!
