Good. Renewable energy makes us less vulnerable to the volatile oil markets and more resilient in general.

Dependence on oil is a national security risk of epic proportions.

it’s always been. Same goes with coal and “natural” gas.

Oddly, all those right-wingers argue we’re dependent on imports electricity-wise, but NOBODY EVER mentions our TOTAL dependence on oil, coal and gas imports.

Always funny that they are crying that Germany is buying some electricity in a european grid from other countries, but ignore where the fossil fuels come from

They also -and purely coincidentally of course- totally ignore that Germany in fact has the capacities to produce all electricity required for them (and half of their neighbours on top) while blowing up stories about net imports in a single-digit percentage range and praising other countries actually dependent on imports as long as their energy mix is low in renewables.

The fossil fuel psyops and its results on policies and public opinion is insane.

Well, coal at least for Germany not really. Not that I am for coal powerplants or anything (they definitely should have been shut down before nuclear power plants and not after), but it is, as the only fossil resource, available in large quantities within Germany.

not really anymore. Soft coal - yeah, but the still highly required black coal is almost exclusively imported.

Saw a journalist whining about “dependency on China” because they sell infrastructure for renewables… you can’t make this up

I have waited all my life for the death of the fossil fuel industry.

Anyone have any tips on how to accelerate it?

I appreciate it, but I want to help prop up renewables while stiffling pipelines, before resorting to that.

USA ironicaly did a really good job blowing up oil.

Maybe we should do a fundraiser for an ad campaign which shames needless use of combustion engine cars, fossil heating, flying, plastics, and meat consumption. Similar to the warnings on cigarette packages. And aimed at the well-informed, resourceful middle class which can change without real discomfort, and knows they can do better, but is too lazy to act.

I think that would work. Much of advertising sells us pictures how we want to be seen by others - people are motivated by pride and what appears cool.

In a market context, the price of fossil hydrocarbons must go up.

In a non-market context, it depends on what tools are available.

I like mobile generators and personal power. I do not like centralization of any kind.

The title sounds like the protestors weren’t asking for any specific steps but

Merz’s coalition, and in particular Reiche – a former energy company executive – have come under fire over various policies, including support for watering down EU-wide car emissions rules and their plans to build more gas-fired power plants.

The chancellor argues steps need to be taken to relieve the burdens on Germany’s struggling manufacturers, and help revive Europe’s biggest economy whose heavy industry has suffered from high energy costs.

Hilarious coz solar+battery is now the cheapest and has near zero international market risk
