Thousands of people demonstrated across Germany on Saturday, urging a faster shift to renewable energy and accusing conservative Chancellor Friedrich Merz's coalition of putting the brakes on the transition.
it’s always been. Same goes with coal and “natural” gas.
Oddly, all those right-wingers argue we’re dependent on imports electricity-wise, but NOBODY EVER mentions our TOTAL dependence on oil, coal and gas imports.
Always funny that they are crying that Germany is buying some electricity in a european grid from other countries, but ignore where the fossil fuels come from
They also -and purely coincidentally of course- totally ignore that Germany in fact has the capacities to produce all electricity required for them (and half of their neighbours on top) while blowing up stories about net imports in a single-digit percentage range and praising other countries actually dependent on imports as long as their energy mix is low in renewables.
The fossil fuel psyops and its results on policies and public opinion is insane.
Well, coal at least for Germany not really. Not that I am for coal powerplants or anything (they definitely should have been shut down before nuclear power plants and not after), but it is, as the only fossil resource, available in large quantities within Germany.
Dependence on oil is a national security risk of epic proportions.

not really anymore. Soft coal - yeah, but the still highly required black coal is almost exclusively imported.
