I was in that storm!

I was working in Durham at the time, living in Raleigh. What was usually a ~45 minute commute became a 4 hour saga. It was mostly made up of idiots sliding backwards down frozen hills with their fucking wheels spinning at max rev. I was driving a basic ass Yaris and didn’t actually have any problems myself, it was just a matter of going around all the intersections clogged with other cars.

Do they also forbid black ice

I wish I could blame southerners for being bad at driving in the snow, which might be partially true. But the reality is that none of them are prepared for it. The plows aren’t ready to run at 4 AM. They don’t have mountains of road salt waiting to melt the ice on that hill. Nobody has snow tires on their cars. Considering all the shit that goes on to mitigate the problem in the North, putting the average northerner in the south during these events might not actually improve the conditions out there very much.

This is what the Texas interstates look like when a hurricane evacuation is given same as every year for a storm that just banks north into Louisiana anyway.
