News@lemmy.world•Chinese EVs take the world by storm — except in the United States
2·3 days agoNestle is one of the worst companies in the world. They are responsible for the death of tens of thousands of children in Africa, droughts and a lot more shit.
I hadn’t heard anythink about Ikea. Mind sharing? I though they were pretty good, being a non profit and investing in climate change.

They’ve found subhuman slave like labour conditions both in the factories in Hungary and Brazil.
Their tech is great, but no one should support any companies that violate human rights. PERIOD!

11·5 days agoThat’s such a cop out. Good luck to a cop trying to get into my phone. Grapheme is not the only ROM that prevents this.
And as the other comment said, there are companies that are way more ethical. Not perfect due to the system but way better.
And this mubd set of not giving a shit about ethics as long as things work well for you, is what enables companies to be shit and exploit the world.

32·5 days agoThere are other ROMs with other hardware that provide a similar level of privacy and more than enough security without giving money to google.
Yes they are also not perfect solutions, but they give you flexibility to support better phone manufacturers

Technology@lemmy.world•GrapheneOS says Google is making life harder for rival operating systems and devicesEnglish
12·5 days agoMany ROMs do that and allow you to install in a large number of phones from different manufacturers. For now, if you want GOS, you are forced to get a google phone.

1·5 days agoIt’s not the only device you can relock the bootloader. I am typing from a Fairphone using e/os with a bootloader I locked after installing it.
I don’t cut corners on my morals, so will never give money to google. Even indirectly by buying second hand and making their phones more attractive to buy.

1·5 days agoI get that. And I did not want to generalise so much but I guess I did.
I do think its the minority of Grapheme users that are culty to be fair. And the main GOS dev from what I’ve seen online.
In terms of smoothness, my wife is very non techy and immediately gets frustrated when tech doesn’t work. She (and I) uses a Fairphone 6 with e/os and the experience is very smooth.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•I was a week away from buying a Pixel Pro 10 for GrapheneOS
3·5 days agoThere are mch more ethical companies than google to buy phones from, like Fairphone.
And “wayyy” less secure is very debatable. There a some security features missing, but still more than secure enough for the vast majority of users.

1·6 days agoI can totally get that. Things can be very confusing the first time around.
Well, eventually when you need a new phone, might I suggest a Fairphone with e/os?

3·6 days agoI took the question as an alternative to Grapheme, but perhaps you are correct.
And all those OSes you could install. Google Play Services if you want, even sandbox them like Graphene.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•I was a week away from buying a Pixel Pro 10 for GrapheneOS
32·6 days agoThe question is, are those missing features actually meaningful enough to support an evil company?
For me they are not.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•I was a week away from buying a Pixel Pro 10 for GrapheneOS
42·6 days agoThey are not as secure, but are private and more than secure enough in my opinion.
And some can be used with more ethical phones like the Fairphone.
GOS sometimes feel like a cult to me. GOS is absolutely the only good ROM and everything else is terrible. There is no nuance.

613·6 days agoThat is exactly what I have. I am not willing to compromise my ethical values and to give money to a truly evil company.
I just find it hypocritical that GOS requires Google made phones and at the same time says its a bad company.

Technology@lemmy.world•GrapheneOS says Google is making life harder for rival operating systems and devicesEnglish
148·6 days agoTo be honest, I think for the average user most ROMs are more than secure enough. And from a privacy perspective a lot of the de googled ones are very good.
Grapheme has almost a cult following in a way that its all or nothing.
I’d rather give up a bit on security while preserving privacy, if it means my money does not support terrible companies.

That would be great!
