Because they have enough data to form a hypothesis that requires more research to confirm. Even if you leave the “may” out it’d be very vague because we don’t know what exactly causes the cancer. Pesticides on vegetables is just their best guess and even if that’s correct, which ones exactly? It might also be something else entirely that happens to correlate with a veggie heavy nutrition but has little to do with the vegetables themselves.
Uncertainty isn’t a bad thing.
They’re doomed to lose this because of their bloat. If you think of Microsoft in a steam format (not publicly traded) they could’ve ran a tight operation with focus on a solid product to maintain their monopoly indefinitely. Instead they’re overextending into AI and to cover the cost of compute they’ll need to push for more monetization. Higher subscription costs, forced AI integration and more aggressive data collection are already here.
All of this is pushing customers towards Linux. And I’m talking big customers here. Entire countries are switching currently. This is an insane amount of effort btw. Teaching a million Margarets from HR how to use Libre Office instead of MS Word after decades of habit is not easy so they really had to shit the bed for this to happen but shit the bed they did.
Don’t even want to know how many hours I sank into that one. My team technically qualified for the arena championship back in TBC but that was when the price money wouldn’t have covered the cost of traveling there.

There were multiple studies on this with similar setups. Eg they’d have students play monopoly and give one of them significantly more cash to start with. Not secretly either. One would think this student would understand that this is an insane advantage but the study found that most of the participants believed that they won by playing well.
So even with the most obvious advantage humans will think that it was their own merit that lead to their success.
