Good news, Sony desperately wants to sell you one.

No, they don’t have a handheld, and that’s kinda the problem. The ecosystem is growing without them. Steamdeck, Xbox ROG Ally, Nintendo Switch. That’s 100% of their competitors, each with handhelds that nearly came out of nowhere in the last few years. Sony is SUPER behind the curve on this, and no amount of “New PSVita5” is gonna save them. They biffed it with the mobile market, and instead of buying in and playing second fiddle, they want to take their ball and go home.

Their strategy right now is literally “Let’s charge more to sell less, and let’s also kneecap a revenue stream that could prop us up during this memory crisis.” Sony has been winning so long that they forgot how easy it is to lose. They are gonna find out.

Edit: I just want to point out that Sony could have easily shifted this into a win. “Hey, this is Tim Sony, President of Sony. Right now, things are hard for everyone in the world of consumer electronics. For 20 years we’ve tried to bring you the best value in entertainment through quality games and low prices. Unfortunately, today, we have to raise our prices to match cost. I know you don’t like it. I don’t like it, either. However, we still want to give you the best value we can. I want a NEW traditional LoZ with dungeons and an actual progression path. I want a Pokemon game that plays like a Pokemon game and doesn’t run like dog water. I want a new IP that takes a risk and does something interesting that ISN’T a multiplayer focused shitfest on Nintendo’s anemic online service. AND GIVE ME A NEW MARIO MAKER, GODDAMNIT.

As much as I want to play this, it’s not gonna get me to buy a switch 2. I need more, Nintendo.

I’d go even further and say that they are classifying vehicles themselves as a luxury, not even the make or model.

This is facts. I have a PC that can handle just about anything I throw at it in terms of graphics (aside from Control, that game is the devil for some reason), and so I don’t bother with “how cool does this look.” I want to know how well it plays. Not just the FPS I can expect, but the gameplay.

I think that’s the difference between console and PC. Consoles are still about “Look how much we can squeeze out of a PS5.” PCs don’t have that problem anymore. We know what we can get. We want to play the fucking game now. I think you don’t need to look further than the Steam Controller launch. We are so hungry for New that we’ll destroy and entire storefront for a $100 controller. No one is burning the Sony servers for the PS Remote Play.

Granted, it’s a fucking awesome controller.
