Which is weird because the court and executive authorities have dramatically expanded over the years. The court couldn’t pull shit like this when it was established. Seems like the more apparent it becomes that its a terrible idea the more certain people are into it.

The US government is fully capable of spending an insane amount of money on something that doesn’t result in working people getting one thin dime.

The main red flags were that the artists released several albums in a short time span and had no online presence on any platform you would expect to see musicians on (Bandcamp, Discogs, etc) besides YouTube and the streaming ones.

Honestly, those seem like pretty big red flags since that is how actual bands manage to actually get paid.

Deciding that an board of unelected life-time appointed elders should be able to decide what the entire country does was maybe not a great idea.

But getting people to broadcast it into the mainstream media is not.

Russian capsules have returned to land since their very first launches.

The decision has more to do with geopolitics than physics. Russia does not have a robust Navy with access to equatorial waters on which to land a spacecraft, the US does. Given the historical accuracy of landing a capsule it is actually a hell of a lot easier to drive a big ship to the eventual location than it is to drive a big truck into the middle of a desert. The reason western nations return capsules to the sea is because its easier to recover them there.

Both approaches have technical challenges. Returning to land requires a slower landing speed (although as a percentage of the starting velocity of a spacecraft its a pretty insignificant difference) and landing on the sea requires the carrying of flotation devices and designing a capsule with buoyancy in mind.

In other words this post is completely inaccurate.
