I’ve never understood this idea of using a label as a shield for any and all criticism. “It’s a meme”, “it’s a shitpost”. Particularly when everyone seems to accept the idea of “meme” = “literally every image”. People can actually spread false information as a joke and it still do damage. You’re right about the popular vote. I keep forgetting that because it’s not been the case previously and for so many other Republican presidents. You say I’m conflating these concepts but imo they are all intermingled by default, especially in the case of who owns trump. I wish I knew what to do. I tried joining a local action group but I don’t really see it being valuable and I don’t agree with all of their approaches even if I thought they could get shit done.

There is a feeling of hopelessness right now and who can blame us? Even if we manage to convince Democrats to move further to the left, and it works, we still have SUCH an uphill battle to fight moving forward. Fascist ideology is popular, obviously. And no I’m far from advocating for doing nothing. I just don’t know what I can realistically do in the short or long term.

Have you asked yourself why you feel this way? Names literally exist to be used. No cultural norm I am aware of prohibits their use, other than it would be weird in limited contexts like if you called your parents by their names. But even that is not universal. A stranger using your name is not disrespectful in the least, so getting mad about that seems like a problem.
