2·8 hours agoI was imagining they were eventually going to go bankrupt and consolidate, with their IP ending up in, like, the Disney or Warner vault. Cable has evolved too. I’m not selling here, just explaining. Your streaming service could get offered as part of a cable package or even part of your internet. SaaS is taking over so streaming might just become another part of some software package like a cable channel.

1·8 hours agoYou don’t even have to pirate. gog and other platforms besides steam are almost giving them away. Sometimes platforms ARE giving them away. You don’t have to pirate, you just have to be content with playing games that have been on the market for a bit.

5·8 hours agohow far things have fallen. I remember 15 years ago, I actually reached out to Netflix directly to tell them how great they were as a product. I was like 17 and stupid. I reached out to their help desk just to say “hey you guys are awesome!” how times change I guess. Yoho and all that.

6·7 hours agoseriously, signing back up just for a title won’t make them change. It will just lead to them releasing weekly and adding more ads so you have to stay longer and get a worse experience. I don’t have a single amazon product but I’m still caught up on The Boys. It’s not that hard and you will save so much money.
Streaming platforms broke the piracy truce first. You don’t owe them anything.

Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Taylor
There’s her wiki too. Taylor was a spectacle even back then, with the tabloids reporting she stole anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000. It was actually about $8,000. She was a petty criminal who got caught pretty much every time and was arrested for her crimes. By the time Reagan was talking about her, that number had been further inflated (lied about) to be around $100,000, but regardless, she was cooked.

6·1 day agoI’m aware.
I’m also aware that she defrauded the government something like $10,000, was caught almost immediately, and as you said, punished. Reagan made her out to be a crime lord stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Real or not, the lie is the gross misrepresentation of who and what she was to the american people, used as a justification to cut social aid programs for millions in need.

21·2 days agoThat’s like admitting they live in a completely different world. That’s what blows my mind. By implication, he’s admitting the wealthy exist in a completely separate reality. That the shadow economy is real, and that the average person is effectively a second-class citizen. It’s an acknowledgment that it is, and maybe always has been, us versus them. I’ve always said they exist in a completely different world, one that operates on different rules than the rest of us. More than just the obvious. Everything you posted, culture, norms, ancestry, history. They will never change to help you. They will always operate from a place of exploitation. It’s their culture. They made it so.

2·2 days agoIt hurts man. Especially knowing that the road I took has crumbled behind me, like in those old Looney Tunes cartoons where someone redraws the road lines to lead people off a cliff. Everything at a user level online feels like an infomercial. All of it has that veneer of being fake and cheap, trying to sell you something while pretending not to.

20·4 days agoThere are some people who have just been filled with so much wrong information over the course of their life that it’s impossible to reach them. Anything you say to them will have a keyword that puts their guard up, any fact you share would be fake news. It’s like their brains have been encrypted with the propaganda and hate. It’s pavlovian. I try to recognize it in myself and maintain an open mind but it’s hard.
