No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I have a leaking wall...English
4·1 day agoYou can install drain tile outside to route water away from the house, but that depends on the rest of your property, and if you have anywhere to redirect the water to.
You can also dig out around that wall and apply a water sealant, or other water mitigation to the outside of the wall.
There are a few options, but most of them are going to require moving a lot of dirt.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google Starts Scanning All Your Photos As New Update Goes LiveEnglish
8·8 days agoExcept anyone else that has ever taken my picture can opt-in for me, and I have no way of knowing if they did or not.
This isn’t a signal issue, it’s a notification issue.
Literally any app that you allow to use notifications would do the same thing.
If you want this to be more secure, you have to turn off notifications.
Most likely this is referring to the case where they extracted messages from the notification history of an iPhone.
Which would be the situation with any app that has notifications that show content.
If you want to be perfectly safe here, you’d need to disable notification content. This has nothing to do with signal.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a gadget or appliance that you purchased that you would wholeheartedly recommend to others?English
5·10 days agoTo be fair, the early ones were pretty crappy compared to what they have now.
At the start, you really couldn’t use it for real work. The convenience came at a huge cost.
These days all but the most extreme tasks can be done with cordless.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I almost got to try out my new quick clampEnglish
1·1 month agoClassic mistake.
You need to label them as 1 meter pipe clamps so the work thinks it can get away with being 1.1 meters, but then at the last second you rip off the label and yell “SURPRISE, IT’S ACTUALLY LONG ENOUGH!”
Realistically, most jobs don’t NEED hands. Most physical jobs can be done better with customized manipulators for the type of work being done.
We’d only need hands if we wanted a single robot model that could do multiple types of jobs, instead of a specific robot for each job.
