They have pepsi in Italy. There are some differences in what is allowed in American food vs European food but none of them would explain bloating or laziness. You may have some digestive issues because I don’t get those symptoms when eating American pasta or pizza unless I eat way too much.

I would guess that none of the birds were rats. Unless you mean they talked to the cops, in which case I agree they had it coming.
