There’s plenty of jobs in the military that aren’t fighting on the front lines. US power at war is derived from its logistics. Need people to drive trucks, get water, build shit. USMC has over 300 jobs, but 03 jobs are essentially the ones considered front lines. They always throw the 10% number around, 10% do the fighting while 90% support.
Loading the dishwasher is its own battle.
Que sera! My house is a disaster, and we pick it up once a week only to have it disasterize itself again in a couple days anyway. And we harp on the kids, but in the same way my folks harped on me, so obviously it’s just in my genes and so fuck it.
My house is also spotless if we have people by, but during the week, things just pile up, and we just keep our heads above water.

I think the size thing is the answer to the question. I’m from Jersey so I googled and yeah, two NJ is one Switzerland, so perhaps that’s why America does not have ubiquitous 25Gbit internet, because it is 237 times larger.
And piggybacking of precious comments, completely unnecessary amount of bandwidth. I am fortune, being from Jersey, that as my needs have grown, the service I get has seemingly grown to accommodate my use. I remember using cable back when it came out, and it would bog down hard between 5-7pm, when people got home and used surfed the information highway. Now, I have 300/300 I think, I pay $24.99 a month, I do stuff that utilizes bandwidth, and I never, ever have any issues. I know this isn’t everyone’s experience, but it certainly exists for plenty of folks. Ubiquitous distribution is probably unlikely, especially considering how much of middle America lives (and I mean rural, not like animals).
I haven’t used an LLM, but it’s probably similar to how people could not Google for shit. I always considered myself something of an expert at using search engines, although they’ve gone to shit obviously, and with the advent of AI it seems like they will fade out.
I served with dudes whose motto was if you can’t truck it, fuck it, but I get what you’re saying. I also think we’re not talking crazy heavy shit. A case of MREs is like 20lbs, and I’m sure you, like me, did many an assembly line of MREs. I actually found loading trucks via assembly line to be efficient. And did I sometimes carry 100+lbs of shit? Absolutely, but I also did that 03 job.
They’ll find a place for the older, heftier folks to serve. And they’ll also get those people in better shape.
