    I’m fairly ignorant of the US, so I read this as:

    Republican David Scott, a Georgia Democrat…

    and was slightly confused.

      There’s “congress” which is both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

      When you see “Rep.” it’s short for “representative” and means it’s a House member and not a Senator

        But for some reason, House representatives are usually referred to as “Congressman”.

      You should hear about the Democratic-Republican party that preceded them.

      Or the former Liberal-Conservative party in Canada, or the Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia.
