A record fine had been issued by the Office for Students over the university's trans and non-binary inclusion policy.

BBC article is pretty terrible, as is standard for anything they do covering trans rights.

    https://www.theguardian.com/education/2026/apr/29/sussex-university-overturns-fine-free-speech-kathleen-stock

    Basically:

    • A transphobic professor left the university after she was protested against.
    • The OfS decided to fine the university over £500 000 over this, calling it a freedom of speech issue.
    • The high court overuled this.

By the way, Peck, the chairman of OfS is a Zionist, as he says anti-Zionism is antisemitism. https://afcomm.org.uk/2025/03/12/what-the-next-head-of-the-office-for-students-gets-wrong-about-free-speech-on-campus/

Its interim CEO says hate speech bans should be abolished while sounding like a whiney bigot https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/18683/pdf/

And it’s previous CEO is the one that kicked this off. I haven’t even looked at the other members.

Zionist and Transphobic? Why are they always the worst people you can imagine.

That’s the sort of people the Conservatives and Forced Labour (Labour under Starmer) like to put in power.

That said I’m not sure who actually elects these people. Could be unrelated.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think “reputable news source” needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
