I’m pretty principled. I block as much tracking as I can in my personal use of the web because what I do isn’t anyone’s business but my own. So, the idea that I have to put trackers on my site is pretty noxious to me, and I have thus far refused.

This isn’t an ad and I don’t want my personal account associated with my business, so no URLs, but I would like to know what you all think: is this something worthwhile that people will appreciate, or am I letting my principles guide me off a cliff because nobody cares that much?

No, nothing wrong with redirecting your users.

The business case of analytics is usually pretty vein and surface level anyways.

    That being said:

    • investors in your business are going to badger you about metrics if you go that route
    • if you do have something to optimize it’s useful
    • if you buy ads you might have to add tracking for conversion metrics

Just on the subject of investors right quick: I’ve done the Silicon Valley thing, didn’t like the feeling of being a dancing monkey at all, and my investors gave me some awful advice that I felt obliged to take. Since I don’t want to take the money of strangers and I don’t want to expose my friends and family to risk by taking their money, I’m self-funding this one. It’s so much more relaxed! And I get to take risks like launching with no analytics 😅
